For many of us, when we think of art, we tend to think it’s not for us. Perhaps you think you aren’t very creative, but there’s more to it than merely being ‘good at drawing.’

Allowing our brains the freedom for free expression, even by doodling, can have a wonderful impact on how we process, retain, and share information. Art can also be powerful as a tool when acknowledging, processing, and celebrating our emotions.

In this camp we will use traditional artistic practices as a way to implement productive mental health. We will combine writing, meditation, movement, and group conversation with drawing, painting, collage, and ceramics. This week will be immersive and hopefully a beautiful journey of discovery for your child.

Do you have a little one who can’t seem to stop doodling? Do they look at the world around them and into their bright imaginations, wanting to sprawl it out on paper at any chance they get? This camp is designed for young artists who have an interest in learning how to draw or sketch. It covers the tools you'll need to draw and also provides plenty of exercises to practice drawing using different techniques and styles. It will cover drawing people, places, things, and even abstract concepts. A lot of students have enjoyed drawing certain things and shapes over and over, but are ready to take that next step towards confidently drawing anything they desire. Let’s open the infinite possibilities together!

The older your young artist gets, the more they start to explore the “why” of their creating. This camp will be an opportunity for them to expand their knowledge on different art styles, historical art movements, and current artists as they try to differentiate between the art they are used to, and the cohesive body of work that they desire to achieve in the future. This course will include self reflection, aesthetic investigation, and the beginning steps in defining themselves as advanced creators. A part of this process will be a dive into sketchbook organization and various prompts that will encourage the students to curate their own personal style in making. For your child, this is a rare opportunity to be exposed to a college level studio process and to define their “why” in a cohesive way.
