Will Roberson - Boys Head Varsity Basketball Coach

Will Roberson has been named Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach effective immediately.

Roberson has been instrumental in the success of the Spartans basketball team over the last five seasons. He helped lead the team to a 141-11 overall record during that span, including a 54-game winning streak and state championships in 2015 and 2017. Throughout his tenure at TBS, Roberson has helped nine players go on to play at the collegiate level. Roberson also earned a 61-5 record as the head coach of the middle school/JV teams at TBS.

Before coming to TBS, Roberson worked as a college coach for nine years, where he coached over 20 players that went on to play at the professional level. He was an assistant coach at Elon for four years, helping to lead a program turnaround from nine wins in 2009 to 21 victories in 2013 and the school’s first Division I postseason appearance. His responsibilities included recruiting, scheduling games, scouting opponents and monitoring the team’s academic progress. Roberson helped recruit, develop and coach several all-conference selections and future professional players, including Elon’s all-time leading three-point shooters (Tanner Samson and Jack Isenbarger) and all-time leading shot blocker (Lucas Troutman).

In 2008-09, Roberson was the top assistant at Emory University in Atlanta and helped lay the foundation for a program that has advanced to six straight NCAA Tournaments. He recruited multiple all-conference selections and an Academic All-American.

Prior to his time at Emory University, Roberson worked as a graduate assistant at ACC member Clemson University in 2006-07, alongside fellow assistants Shaka Smart (current University of Texas head coach) and Will Wade (current Louisiana State head coach). Led by a talented roster including current Indiana Pacer Trevor Booker, Clemson started the season 17-0 en route to the championship game of the NIT in Madison Square Garden.

Roberson began his coaching career at his alma mater, Davidson College, where he served as the Director of Basketball Operations from 2002-2005. During those three seasons, the team won 57 games, including a 16-0 record in the Southern Conference in 2004-05. As an undergraduate, he served as the team’s head student manager for four seasons, including the 2001-02 season that saw Davidson win 21 games and advance to the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to his traditional coaching assignments, Roberson traveled to Nigeria in the summer of 2013 with the organization Access to Success. On this trip, he planned and executed a basketball camp for several hundred participants as well as participating in an empowerment camp and an after-school camp. In addition, he organized and delivered a coaches’ clinic for approximately twenty Nigerian coaches. He has taught English, US History and Psychology at TBS and planned and led student trips to locations such as New Orleans, Costa Rica, and Washington, D.C. Roberson has served as faculty advisor to the Honor Council and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Roberson graduated from Davidson College in 2002 with a B.A. in History.
