The Burlington School faces powerhouse Wesleyan Christian at Elon University


On Tuesday, January 9, The Burlington School’s boys and girls varsity basketball teams will host NCISAA Class 3A power Wesleyan Christian Academy (WCA) at Elon University at 6:15 pm (girls), and 7:45 pm (boys). Wesleyan’s girls team is currently 13-4 and the number one ranked class 3A private school team in North Carolina. The Trojans, state runner-up last season, are led by a pair of All-State guards in Shaniya Jones (Virginia Tech signee) and Nicole Mackey. 

WCA’s boys are led by 6’8” Jaylen Hoard (Wake Forest University signee) and 6’6” Aaron Wiggins (University of Maryland signee). The Trojans’ boys team, also Class 3A state runner-up last season, are currently 14-4 with their only losses coming to nationally ranked teams outside of North Carolina. WCA boys are coached by former University of Maryland standout Keith Gatlin. 

The Burlington School (TBS) girls are currently 9-3 and recently captured the Sheetz Holiday Tournament Championship over the holiday break. The Spartans are led by a pair of sophomores Aniyah Vanhook and Molina Williams. 

The TBS boys are the reigning NCISAA Class 1A champion. The Spartans are 11-3 after suffering a recent loss to last season’s public school Class 4A champion Southwest Guilford in the finals of the Sheetz Holiday Tournament. The Spartans are led by 6’1” Josiah Jeffers (Longwood University signee) and 6’5” Makiah Fox. 

The games will be held in Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of Elon University. Gate opens at 5:15p. Tickets for adults are $10.00. Tickets for students are $7.00. Ages 6 and under are admitted free.
