THE BURLINGTON SCHOOL JOINS NEW MID-CAROLINA CONFERENCE
Burlington, NC – The Burlington School will join the Mid-Carolina Conference effective July 1, 2017, Athletic Director Ron Johnson announced. The MCC is a newly formed athletic conference made up of 6 schools throughout the Triad. Those schools include: The Burlington School, Cresset Christian School (Durham), Lee Christian School (Sanford), Neuse Christian Academy (Raleigh), Crossroads Christian School (Henderson), and Grace Christian School (Sanford).
The Burlington Schools’ athletic department is governed by the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA) and was previously a member of the Triad Athletic Conference (TAC) since the 2008-2009 school year.
In regards to the move, Athletic Director Johnson stated, “The schools that make up the MCC will see upper school enrollment ranging from 70-100 students. With our upper school enrollment of less than 100 students, we were by far the smallest of the eight TAC schools. Five of the TAC schools had over 140 upper school students, and two had enrollments of over 215. He continued to say, “Although we've had success in the TAC in certain sports, we have not been consistently competitive in conference play in many of the varsity sports that we offer due to our limited roster sizes. Joining the MCC will provide our teams with more opportunities to potentially compete in state tournament play.”
